Here is our learning for Summer 2:
In Writing, we will be writing our own Greek myth inspired by Theseus and the Minotaur. Later in the term, we will write a playscript to tell the myth of Arachne and Athena.
In Oracy, we will continue to refine our speaking skills through a series of weekly debates and relational circles.
In Maths this half term, we will be looking at recognising, describing and drawing 2D and 3D shapes. We will follow this with a statistics unit, understanding how to create and interpret pictograms and bar charts. We will end the year revisiting addition and multiplication.
In RE, our Kingdom of God unit will look at Pentecost and ask the question 'When Jesus left what was the impact of Pentecost?'
In History, we will be learning about the importance of the Ancient Greeks and how many of their legacies are still vital to life today. We will also learn about the empire of Alexander the Great and the lengthy war between Athens and Sparta. Our unit will conclude with us answering the question 'What did the Greeks do for us?' as a role play/oracy presentation.
In Science, we will be learning about light. What light is, how we see, how shadows are formed and how they change over time.
In Art, we will be creating Ancient Egyptian scrolls as part of our craft and design unit. We will use our prior learning to investigate the characteristics of Ancient Egyptian art, practice applying our design skills, make our own papyrus type paper and create a more modern 'zine.
In French, we will be learning how to say the days of the week and the months of the year.
In PSHE we will be talking about drugs and Tobacco. We will consider what a drug is, including prescription medication. We will then talk about tobacco as a drug, the effects it has on the body and ways that could help someone stop smoking.
In PE we will be practising our throwing and hitting skills and begin to understand the rules of rounders. We will also be continuing our dance work with Phoenix.
In ICT, we will be learning about algorithms.
Knowledge Organisers should be used to support your child throughout the topic being covered. They provide end points which is the knowledge that children will gain from this unit of work. They also show the learning that has taken place before and how this will link to future learning. Children will use these both in school and at home to supplement their learning, allowing us to work collaboratively together.
