Windrush event at Phoenix Dance.

Over the last few weeks, Year 3 have had the privilege of working with a practitioner from Phoenix Dance. All of their hard work culminated in a performance of Togetherness at Phoenix as part of a Windrush event.  During the day, the children had the opportunity to meet Cleve whose dad was part of the Windrush generation. He told the children about how many of the people who came over were persecuted due to the colour of their skin. Cleve told the children how it is important to be kind always to everyone, to accept everyone, and that no matter how bad something might seem - it will always get better. He then taught them some body percussion and a classic Bob Marley song.

Later, the children went to the theatre for a tech rehearsal in order to get everything just right for their performance. There were 6 schools at the event, so we could all enjoy the different interpretations of the important themes of the event - unity, community, support, family and coming together. Although the video of the performance is a little blurry, I’m sure you’ll agree that the children were wonderful.
