Parents and carers of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

SENDIASS summer term zoom information sessions

Information sessions are online events run during term time and are free!

Sessions provide information about a SEND process, highlight important points to be aware of and explain steps clearly. Sessions aim to support parents and carers to understand and participate in each SEND process.

The dates and the topics for the next information sessions are:

SEND Support in Mainstream school:

9th May at 10am

The information session covers what SEND support can be accessed in school, requesting, preparing for and attending SEND meetings, the Graduated Response, reasonable adjustments, and receiving support from other agencies.  

Education Health and Care Needs Assessment:

27th April at 10am or 15th May at 5.15pm

The information session covers how to request an assessment, guidance for filling in the application forms, information on the process, including timelines.   

 

Refusal to Assess Tribunal Appeal:

3rd May at 1pm

The information session will cover appealing decisions to the SEND tribunal in relation to an EHC needs assessment, including mediation, the tribunal process, and preparing paperwork.

SENDIASS Advice Drop-in session

The next SENDIASS advice drop-in sessions are:

  • 24th April, 12:30pm till 2:30pm at Technorth Learning Centre, 9, Harrogate Road Chapel Allerton, LS73NB
  • 22nd May, 12:30pm till 2:30pm at Armley Library, 2 Stocks Hill, Armley, LS12 1UQ
  • 26th June, 12:30pm till 2:30pm at Beeston Community Hub, Town Street, Beeston, LS11 8PN

SENDIASS Officers will be available to provide targeted advice and information for parents and carers on a drop-in take a ticket basis.

Leeds Parent Carer Forum

Leeds Parent Carer Forum are the new parent participation forum in Leeds.

 

Leeds PCF (Parent Carer Forum) is led by local parents working to represent the views of parents and carers of children and young people with SEND while working in partnership with the Local Authority Education, Health & Care services to make a positive difference for children and families in Leeds.

 

The Leeds Parent Carer Forum held a launch event on Friday 24th March 2023, with over 60 parents and carers attending. Parents, carers and professionals can register with the Leeds Parent Carer Forum to receive updates on the work they are doing, information about events and share views to help the forum make a difference for children and families with special educational needs and disabilities across Leeds. Barnardos Leeds Children’s Rights Service

We offer independent advocacy to young people who are unhappy with any aspect of their Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan.

We are an independent body who can arrange to meet with the young person, we will support the young person to make sure that their voice is heard and that their wishes and feelings around their personal health care and needs are taken into account when decision are being made.
