Year 2 had a wonderful afternoon at Temple Newsam. We visited the grand house and learnt about many of its most important previous owners through our interactive timeline. Children really enjoyed dressing up and were fabulous in character!
As we explored the house, we thought about how it would have been different during 1660, and looked at the potential fire dangers all around us. In the kitchen, we realised just how easily a fire could start. We also looked at artefacts and had a go at putting out (our imaginary) fire using fire squirts, a 1600's fire cart and leather buckets passed down our human chain. None of these worked so we used fire hooks and eventually even dynamite to blow up a whole street to finally stop the fire in its tracks! What an adventure!
