Summer 1

In Writing,  the children will continue to apply what they have been learning about in Geography to complete an explanation text about The Water Cycle.  This will give the children the opportunity to consider the formality and audience of the piece. It will also allow them to include technical language, complex sentences, a range of modal verbs, diagrams, captions and finally publish their work in a professional and purposeful manner.

In Maths, we will be focusing on shape, position and direction and consolidating our decimal knowledge.

In RE we will be learning about Judaism and what does it mean for a Jewish person to follow God.

In Geography we will be learning all about rivers. Using rivers of the world we will learn the different parts of a river as well as understanding their importance.

In Reading we will use reading VIPERS to creatively comprehend poetry, fiction and non-fiction texts.

In Science we will be exploring properties and changes of materials when they encounter different substances. We will build on prior knowledge and widen our vocabulary to consider the suitability and practicality of different materials.

in Art we will be developing our drawing skills to produce a WW1 soldier sketch.

In French we will be learning all about food, developing our question and answer skills before finally writing a French dessert recipe.

In Oracy we will be developing our debating skills through weekly discussion topics as well as sharing our current favourite books.

In PSHE we will be looking at role models, the power of the media and their influence on us.

In PE and Games  will be orienteering to help improve our communication, teamwork and direction skills and in games we will be developing our tennis skills.

In Music, widening our vocabulary and learning about how music can shape our way of life.

Knowledge Organisers should be used to support your child throughout the topic being covered. They provide end points which is the knowledge that children will gain from this unit of work. They also show the learning that has taken place before and how this will link to future learning. Children will use these both in school and at home to supplement their learning, allowing us to work collaboratively together.

Class Poem

Fisherman Chant - John Agard

Sister river
Brother river
Mother river
Father river
O life giver
O life taker
O friend river
What have you
in store
for a poor
fisherman
today.

From my boat
I cast my net
to your heart
O friend river
and I hope
you return it
gleaming with silver
O friend river

Sister river
Brother river
Mother river
Father river
O life giver
O life taker
O friend river
What have you
in store
for a poor fisherman
today?
