Road Safety

Amber from Leeds City Council visited reception class today to teach us all about staying safe near roads. We began by adding the following labels to a roadside picture:

pavement

kerb

road

car

seatbelt

We learnt about the different vehicles that ‘go on the road’. The children knew to wear a helmet if you are riding a scooter. Amber told us we always need to hold grown ups hand when we are walking on a pavement. If they were pushing a pushchair, the children came up with the idea that we could hold onto the side of a pram to keep us safe. We added a zebra crossing to the picture and learnt how this is a safe place to cross the road.

Amber told us a story about a teddy who fell onto the floor in the car. This was because the teddy hadn’t put on his seatbelt. We learnt how to listen out for the seatbelt click to make sure we are safe.
