National Poetry Day 2022

We had a wonderful day celebrating National Poetry. We started the day by discussing our favourite poems and exploring what poetry is and what it means to us all in school. We then followed a live lesson where we talked about this year’s theme: the environment. We spoke about description, similes and what we can smell, see and hear in our local environment. We then took it in turns to read poems and discuss what makes a good performance. After exploring tone, volume and expression we began to rehearse our own nature poems in groups (including actions). The afternoon saw the entire school visit our local park. We are so lucky to be so close to such a beautiful park, woods and beck. It made the perfect backdrop to perform and record our performances. The children were wonderful and it was such a fantastic way to  spend the afternoon.
