Autumn 1

In Autumn 1 we are learning...

In Writing we will be writing sentences "All About Me" focusing on capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We will then be writing a story based on the book, "What the Ladybird Heard".

In Maths, we will be focusing on Place Value (within 10), addition, subtraction and shape.

In RE we will be learning about Creation.

In Geography, we will be learning about our Local Area of Meanwood.

In Science, we will be learning about animals including humans.

In PSHE, we will be learning about "Feeling Good and Being Me".

In PE, we will be learning gymnastics and to build our teamwork skills.

In Music, children will learn about their musical heartbeat and that every song has a beat (pulse.  Children will use their bodies to march, clap and sway in time with the music.

In Computing, we will be learning about technology all around us.

In French, we will be learning to introduce ourselves.

Our Oracy focus is "my favourite animal". There will be many opportunities for children to describe their favourite animal to the rest of the class.

Knowledge Organisers should be used to support your child throughout the topic being covered. They provide end points which is the knowledge that children will gain from this unit of work. They also show the learning that has taken place before and how this will link to future learning. Children will use these both in school and at home to supplement their learning, allowing us to work collaboratively together.

Knowledge Organisers are designed to help provide additional support and direction for families to support learning at home. They can be used as a point of reference for year group knowledge and expectations within the given topic area.

Science: Animals including Humans

Geography: My Local Area

We went on a trip to Meanwood Valley Urban Farm to support our learning all about Animals, in our Science topic. We found lots of animals on our farm tour including cows, pigs, sheep and alpacas. We learnt about the different animal groups and their characteristics.

We went on a fieldwork walk to observe our local area. We found Green Rd, the park, the playground, the Beck and the cafe and used our findings to help us draw our own map back in the classroom.
