Year 3 enjoyed a very busy, hands on trip to Harlow Carr to support our recent science learning. The children wowed our instructor with all of their knowledge about flowering plants and how seeds are produced and dispersed. They then headed to the greenhouse where they had the opportunity to repot their own lettuce plants (which will need watering daily and can’t be planted in the cardboard cup). Following they, the children headed outside to be botanists - studying flowers and plants and taking measurements. After lunch, we headed up to the apiary to see the beehives. Luckily for us, the beekeepers were cleaning the hives so we got to see the hundreds of bees hard at work inside the hive. It gave the children the opportunity to see all the things they have been writing about in action. Two of the children were lucky enough to hold bees (male bees don’t sting) which was brilliant. We ended our day on the playground. It was definitely a fun packed day!
