VISION & PRINCIPLES
Visitors frequently remark on the friendly atmosphere that exists in school. We are a community school in which everyone tries to work happily together. We work closely with our local and associated church, Holy Trinity Meanwood and several community groups. We value the contribution that everyone makes to school life, placing importance on the welfare of individuals.
We have high expectations of all children both socially and academically. We aim to provide young people with the experiences they need to develop into successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens who are equipped with the skills to meet the demands of 21stcentury life.
We encourage them to become ‘good learners’, developing their individual talents to the full. It is our aim that at the end of their years at Meanwood C of E, all children will have a sense of achievement and self-esteem as a result of their experiences here and will leave us for the next school, happy and with a positive attitude to learning. The school’s perspective forms its objectives both in relationships and through the curriculum. We are a Christian school, not merely a school for Christians and welcome children from other religious denominations and faiths. We have strong links to Holy Trinity church in Meanwood and the Vicar is a member of our Governing Body. However, the clerics from all of the local churches and faiths are invited into school to lead worship. The children really enjoy seeing their church leaders in school and learning about other faiths in the community.
In the context of this, all children will receive teaching in Religious Education which, whilst having a multi-cultural element, will be based on the beliefs of the Church of England. Each year group in school studies Christianity and another world faith each year. For Reception children the study is based around festivals such as Diwali and Chinese New Year. Although parents have the right to withdraw their children from Religious Education and daily collective worship, after consultation with the Headteacher, it is to be hoped that nobody seeking a place for a child in this school would wish to do so.
Please read the school's prospectus to learn more our aims, building and curriculum.
