About Us
Meanwood is a Church of England (Aided) Primary school, catering for children aged 4 - 11. We are a one form entry school; the children are currently arranged in 7 classes of around 30 in each.
The school was refurbished in 1993, although the original part of the building was opened 160 years ago. The Community worked together to raise £150,000 towards the refurbishment and we recently engaged in a similar effort to raise £30,000 for a computer suite. The year before last we were generously given funding by the DfES for a new group/arts room
In June 2000 the DfEE awarded the school Beacon Status, an honour that at that time only four Primary Schools in Leeds had gained. We were delighted with the award and saw it as a fitting tribute to the work that goes on in school. In June 2003 Beacon Status was renewed even though the Government were phasing out the programme. In January 2005 the school was included in the Annual Report of Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Schools (Ofsted) as one of the most successful in the country. This followed an outstanding Ofsted Inspection and the school being number one in Schools Performance Table for Leeds in December 2004.
Our standards have been maintained ever since and the school continues to go from strength to strength as evidenced by our position of 24th best performing primary school in the country in the Sunday Times’ survey of SAT results over three years.
